YITAO Air Spring Group has put a new air spring forming machine designed and built in-house into service. It takes over as the company retires the MESNAC forming and cutting equipment that served its production line for ten years. The original purchase value of the retired equipment totalled RMB 15 million.
The MESNAC equipment was central to YITAO's early air spring production. It cut blanks and formed air spring bodies as the business moved from its first production runs to larger volumes. Along the way, it helped the team maintain consistent deliveries and gather the process data that informed the design of its successor.
As the product range grew, YITAO needed tighter forming control, faster changeovers between specifications and more flexibility to modify the equipment. Tailoring purchased equipment to a particular process was difficult, and spare parts and upgrades could depend on external lead times.
YITAO's equipment development team worked with process, production and maintenance colleagues to design the new machine, develop its mechanical structure and control system, assemble it and commission it on the production line. Developing both the machine and its controls in-house lets the team adapt the equipment to YITAO's own forming process.
The new machine gives operators finer control over forming to help maintain consistency. The team revised the changeover process so the line can switch more readily between air spring specifications. In-house development also gives the company more control over repairs, spare parts and future upgrades, with the aim of reducing long-term maintenance costs. The design leaves room for new products and future capacity upgrades.
The handover marks a step in bringing product engineering and equipment development closer together. YITAO will continue developing its own production equipment where it can improve process control and support new air spring designs.
